Alternative of Depleted Uranium in Military Fields-Tungsten Alloy


Tungsten alloy is the best material to be used as weapon material instead of depleted uranium(DU), because tungsten alloy has the good properties while DU hasn't. The most important point is that DU is toxic and it is much harmful to environment while tungsten alloy is non-toxic and environmentally friendly.
Taking advantage of tungsten alloy superior strength-to-weight ratio, composites of titanium and fiberglass are used in the manufacture of rotor blades for the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. Increased use of composites has led to a similar increase of tungsten alloy in military applications due to its better galvanic and thermal expansion and conductivity compatibility characteristics with carbon composites.
