A permit for a new Category ‘A’ mining waste facility in England under new EU regulations has been granted Wolf Mineral’s Hemerdon Tungsten Mine following assistance from international environmental consultancy, SLR Environmental.
With global demand for tungsten rising and future global production expected to be constrained, Wolf Minerals (ASX: WLF, AIM: WLFE) explained that it is developing the third largest tungsten mine in the world at its Hemerdon project in the South West of England.
The specialty metals exploration and development company, said that the Environmental Permit, issued by the Environment Agency, is the final major permit required to proceed with development and construction of the project.
Production is expected to commence in mid-2015, and the project will produce approximately 3500 tonnes of tungsten in concentrate and 450 tonnes of tin in concentrate per annum.
SLR said that over the past 12 months it has worked closely with Wolf, the Environment Agency and a team of other consultants throughout the application process.
The multidisciplinary team from SLR was responsible for advising on a range of technical issues including air quality, nature conservation, waste classification, geomorphology, compliance with EU Directives, and permitting.
