According to experts, tungsten disulfide has a molybdenum disulfide type hexagonal layered structure. Each crystal layer is composed of two layers of sulfur atoms and a layer of tungsten atoms in between. The sulfur atoms and tungsten atoms in the layer are strongly bonded, so it has good resistance to compression. The adjacent crystal layers are weakly bound by sulfur atoms and sulfur atoms, so there is a low shear resistance surface between the layers. When there is a shear force, the crystal layers will slip between each other. The good internal friction and compression resistance of WS2 make the metal friction between the friction surfaces into the friction between the WS2 crystal layers, thereby reducing the friction coefficient between the friction surfaces and reducing wear.
