Mo-doped Tungsten Oxide Electrochromic Film

Mo-doped tungsten oxide electrochromic film is a type of widely studied and applied electrochromic layer material, which is extremely important for producing smart windows as the color change of smart window is achieved by the change in the valence state of the electrochromic material. For example, when a negative voltage is applied to the electrochromic layer (WO3 film), the cations (H+, Li+) migrate into WO3 to change the valence state of the W atom, showing a blue color.

So what are the requirements for electrochromic layer materials, smart windows or other electrochromic devices? The electrochromic layer should have the characteristics of a large light modulation range, high coloring efficiency and cycle durability. Also, it should have high electronic conductivity and ionic conductivity to ensure a short transition time. Besides, for achieving discoloration, the electrochromic layer must be tightly bonded to the ion conductive layer. Well, tungsten oxide and many other transition metal oxides are potential electrochromic materials as smart windows are more and more widely applied in energy-saving buildings and automobiles.
