Yellow Tungsten Oxide Applied for Lithium Battery Anode Material

Yellow tungsten oxide, or tungsten trioxide, is a lithium battery anode material that is expected to be commercialized in the future. Lithium-ion batteries have been widely concerned by researchers from various countries because of their advantages of high energy density, long service life, and environmental protection. At present, the anode material of commercial lithium-ion batteries is graphite, while the low specific capacity and poor rate performance of graphite anodes limit the development of lithium-ion batteries accordingly.

Transition metal oxides such as yellow tungsten oxide have attracted researchers' attention as an anode material of lithium-ion batteries because of their advantages such as large specific capacity, low price, and wide sources. However, the volume change of tungsten trioxide during the extraction and insertion of lithium ions is large. It is easy to cause the electrode to rupture. And the electrode material is easy to separate from the current collector, and thereby, the service life of the battery is reduced. This is a problem that must be solved before yellow tungsten oxide lithium battery anode material is commercialized.
