Tungsten Alloy Aircraft Brake Pads

Tungsten Alloy Aircraft Brake Pad is an important part of aircraft braking device, which uses a series of excellent properties of tungsten alloy, such as corrosion resistance, easy processing, oxidation resistance and good high temperature strength, to meet the requirements of special conditions, such as high temperature and high pressure. It is mainly used to brake aircraft during landing.

The aircraft brake system is multi-plate brake, which uses moving and static plates to arrange alternately. When the airplane descends for emergency braking, although the engine has been turned off, huge kinetic energy is still saved. In a very short time, the brake device is used to squeeze the moving plate and the static plate together by hydraulic pressure, which produces strong sliding friction and forms braking effect. At this time, the kinetic energy of aircraft is converted into heat energy, which makes the internal temperature of brake pads as high as 3000℃ and the surface temperature as high as 1500℃. Therefore, as a brake pad material, it must be able to withstand the test of high temperature, high stress and high thermal shock.

The high temperature generated during the descent of the aircraft has already melted and deformed for ordinary metal materials, but the aircraft brake pads made of tungsten alloy materials can still maintain good strength. This is mainly because (1) Tungsten has the highest melting point (3420℃) among all metals. Tungsten alloy is based on tungsten and some other metal elements are added, which can improve its overall properties. (2) Tungsten alloy is not only resistant to high temperature, but also has the advantages of stable chemical properties, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, high density, hardness, wear resistance, easy processing and low thermal expansion coefficient.

To sum up, tungsten alloy is the most ideal material for making aircraft brake pads. In addition, it can also be used in aircraft counterweight, medical equipment parts, processing tools, sporting goods, weapons and equipment and other aspects.
